Video preview: Kill the Plumber pits you against a totally evil moustachioed dude bedecked in red

Imagine that a troublemaker is tearing through your homeland, killing your friends, and trying to kidnap a member of royalty. You’d be pretty furious, and you’d want to fight back, right?

That’s what Kill the Plumber is about. It’s basically the anti-Super Mario Bros.

I went hands-on with an early version for your viewing pleasure, the full game is out on iOS in late June / early July.

Byte Master Asher Vollmer, the developer of Threes!, recently reiterated why there can be so many blatant clones of his game.

It’s because he patented the look and name of Threes!, but not the core mechanics.

Take that ingenious puzzler, give it a new skin, call it something else, and you have yourself a competent and perfectly legit puzzler that might make you a few quid.

Here’s another example in Byte Master. It’s Threes!, but with a curious computer-tech theme. So, instead of numbers, you’re swiping to double up bytes in a tight grid.

It’s a much less clear, concise concept, and I’m still a little hazy on the convoluted levelling-up system. Which doesn’t bode well in such a simple puzzler.

Byte Master plays just fine. After all, it’s based heavily on one of the best puzzlers of recent times. But do you really need another Threes! clone in your life? I don’t.

Vainglory dev reckons that eSports will be bigger on mobile than on PC soon Kristian Segerstrale, the COO of Super Evil Megacorp, the creator of mobile MOBA Vainglory, reckons that eSports is going to get a lot bigger on mobile.

Of course, he’s going to say this given that he’s just made a deal with e-sports organization ESL to set-up the Vainglory Cup Series. This is the first touchscreen game that the ESL will host for an eSports tournament.

But, in speaking to The Guardian, Segerstrale even cracked out some mathematical calculations to accompany his prediction.

First off, he acknowledged that eSports has been around on PC for years. And that it’s also very early days for eSports on mobile.

The wonderful, BIP-winning world of Fiete returns with a game of spot the difference There’s a new Fiete game out on iOS all about spotting the difference. Yes, it’s a children’s game, but the previous Fiete game won one of our Big Indie Pitches, don’t you know?

That, in our minds, is enough to give it a little shout-out. Plus, it has sheep in yellow wellies and a pig with a moustache and monocle. That’s got to be worth some points.

Anyway, if you do have kids, we reckon that introducing them to Fiete is a worthwhile effort. It has a wonderful crayon-drawn look and a cast of warm characters.

In this game – titled “Spot the difference” – you’re tasked with picking the odd one out across 99 levels (that should keep them occupied for a while).
