The 25 best tower defence games on iPhone and iPad

You don’t seem to see so many new tower defence games appearing on the App Store these days. That’s kind of a shame.

It used to be that you couldn’t move for them, back when ‘tower defence’ became established as a distinct sub-genre quite apart from the more general ‘strategy’ category. These days it’s still a thing, of course, but a new tower defence game tends to mix in a bunch of other stuff. I believe the kids call it a ‘mash-up’.

Fortunately, the App Store doesn’t have a problem with keeping old stock, and anyone just joining the Apple bandwagon with the launch of the iPhone 7 (welcome!) has a rich seam of classic tower defence games to mine. The best of them haven’t aged at all, either, and a few remain among the very best games available on the App Store.
